The IntCD Research Project Area (RPA) A.2 is organising a two-part workshop on optimisation methods in civil engineering.

The efficient allocation of resources is one of the key aspects of the engineering profession. For structural problems, this might mean minimising the amount of material used, given manufacturing or acoustic constraints. Although the optimisation problems in different fields may be completely different, the general methods for solving them are common to different disciplines. This series of presentations will serve as an introduction to the concept of optimisation in engineering and its practical applications.

The first part, “Introduction to Simulation and Optimisation in Civil Engineering”, focuses on exploring the key elements of an optimisation problem and presents examples that can be solved with a dedicated software solution. The second part, “Black-Box Optimisation for Architects and Engineers”, introduces the concept of black-box optimisation and considers a practical part where the participants will learn how to solve various problems using this approach.

Workshop 1: Introduction to Simulation and Optimisation in Civil Engineering
Presentation by Jan Grasmannsdorf (Altair)
Format: Hybrid

Attendance at the in-person session is limited to 15-20 people (online attendance at Part I on 14 February may be possible for more people). Members of RPA A.2 who register are guaranteed access, the remaining places will be drawn at random from the registrations received.

Please register via email to Karolin Tampe-Mai.

The exact location and the Webex link for the event will be announced after registration.
