At the IEEE VR 2022 Workshop "Open Access Tools and Libraries for Virtual Reality", held online on March 12, 2022, IntCDC Participating Researcher Michael Sedlmair (VISUS) and colleagues received the Honorary Award for Open Source Tools for "RagRug: A Toolkit for Situated Analytics."
RagRag Rug is an open-source toolkit for analytics which focuses on the specific requirements of using augmented reality in applications. It combines state of the art visual encoding capabilities with a comprehensive physical-virtual model, allowing application developers to systematically descibe the physical objects in the real world and their role in AR. Among applications which illustrate the toolkit's abilities is for example "Smart Fridge," an application which visualizes the temperature inside a fridge, checks whether the door has accidentally been left open in case the fridge gets too warm and displays an audiovisual alarm. The example application "Basement" provides a facility manager with information about the location as well as the current and past status of devices installed in a facility's basement in the form of AR visualizations.
A video presentation of further example applications built with RagRug is available on the workshop's website.
