We are extremely delighted that our two guest professors, Jochen Stahl and Markus Lager, greatly support research at IntCDC with their excellence in the in the field of “Innovations in Wood Construction”.  Furthermore, the two guest professors provide their professional expertise to enrich the teaching at ITKE, IBK and the master's degree programme ITECH.

Jochen Stahl is a partner in the international structural engineering firm Fast + Epp. They are responsible for some of the most advanced timber projects of our time such as the UBC Tallwood building in Vancouver, The Arbour in Toronto, which will serve as an educational hub for George Brown College, and the restoration of Frei Otto's Multihalle in Mannheim.

Markus Lager is co-founder of the architectural office Kaden+Lager, which is considered a pioneer of multi-storey wooden hybrid construction in the inner city area. Kaden+Lager are currently designing, planning and building rental apartments for building groups and housing cooperatives in Berlin, Hamburg and Tübingen. With the completion of “Skaio”, currently the highest timber construction in Germany, in March 2019, they are proving that building with wood is possible even beyond the boundaries of high-rise buildings.

The professorships are part of the Architecture and Timber Construction research group, consisting of one architect and one civil engineer to promote the use of timber in architecture. The research group is funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Rural Affairs.
