In recognition of his outstanding service Prof. Volker Schwieger was appointed as Honorary member of the FIG (Federation Internationale de Geometres, International Federation of Surveyors, Internationale Vereinigung der Vermessungsingenieure). He received the certificate of appointment on 15 September 2022 during the XXVII FIG Congress in Warsaw from the FIG President Prof. Rudolf Staiger.

Volker Schwieger, a native of Lower Saxony, Germany, has led the Institute of Engineering Geodesy Stuttgart (IIGS) since 2010. His research focuses on the control of construction robots, multisensor systems, construction monitoring, traffic telematics and quality modelling. He coordinates internationally and nationally research groups on the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), measurement systems, and positioning.
The FIG is the premier international organisation representing the interests of surveyors worldwide. It is a federation of the national member associations and covers the whole range of professional fields within the global surveying, geomatics, geodesy and geo-information community. The FIG was founded in Paris on 18 July 1878 by delegates from seven national associations – Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Spain and Switzerland. It is a UN-recognised non-government organisation (NGO), representing more than 120 countries throughout the world.
