DEVELOPMENT OF INNOVATIVE AND REINFORCEMENT METHODS IN TIMBER CONSTRUCTION USING POLYMER CONCRETE GROUTING
The project aims to explore and develop additional repair and reinforcement options in timber construction by conducting experimental tests with various commercially available polymer concrete grouts. The current state of the art and regulation in Germany does not yet allow all practical cases of timber member repair and reinforcement to be covered with available conventional means, e.g. the infilling of large-gap cracks in columns and beams of old traditional timber buildings made of soft- and hardwoods, or the shear or perpendicular-to-grain strength reinforcement of timber memebers subjected to higher loads after a potential repurposing. The project intends to provide the timber construction industry with new possibilities in this regard, with a special focus on investigations typically necessary for national technical approvals or permits. Its outcomes shall target an increase in service life of timber structures, and thus, contribute to the resource-saving construction industry of the future.
